What We Teach

Student Centered
Curriculum includes everything that goes into the content of teaching various subjects to students. The core curriculum at Salem includes religion, math, science, social studies, language arts (reading, writing, listening and speaking), foreign language, technology, physical education, art and music. Curriculum is assessed in the classroom by the outcomes of student work and triannual national standardized benchmark testing.

The Art of Teaching

Whole Child Eduction
Skills such as conversation, responsive listening, handshakes and eye contact are taught along with math, reading and spelling. Students are taught life skills such as prioritzing tasks, staying organized, working with a group and problem solving. Instructional strategies include collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, project learning, focus and writing.

Growing Spiritual Life
At Salem, we value our weekly worship together at chapel. Students have the opportunity to memorize Bible verses each week as we store up God's Word in our hearts (Psalm 119:11). Students participate in Bible classes to learn more about our Savior and what his Word instructs us.
Fine Arts

The Arts
Students are taught the principles of art and design by certified art teachers and are encouraged to express themselves creatively. We are so proud of the masterpieces that our students create that we cover our hallway walls with their artwork.

Band

Choir
In choir, students learn how to read music, sing with proper technique, and gain confidence in their own singing skills. They learn performance ettiquette, how to sing in a group setting and hone their listening skills.

In All Things, Pursue Excellence

Teaching Responsible Technology Use
Elementary students are taught basic tech skills and safety during their technology time and middle school students continue to learn and practice a wide variety of digital citizenship, brainstorming ways to achieve tasks using technology programs, coding, keyboarding, collaborating with others, and creating content.
Extended Care
Extended Care is an after-school program creatively designed for God's children here at Salem Lutheran School. Our goal is that Extended Care will be a time the kids look forward to as they grow and learn in a safe, loving environment.
