Beginning Band

  1. Visit http://www.bepartoftheband.com/ for introduction videos about each instrument
  2. Visit Music and Arts to see up close band instruments and to set up a rental agreement
  3. If you already own an instrument, please email the director Jonathan Held to set up a time to check it out and see if it is functional. It would also help to take it to a repair show to get a summer cleaning. You could talk with Music and Arts (they have a repairman off-site) or go to Best Band Repair
  4. Sign up for band in the Elective area at Fall Registration
    • Band costs $250 per semester. This cost covers private lessons, a yearly subscription of smartmusic practice software for school laptops, and a method book.
    • The Fall Semester $250 will be paid at Fall Registration on August 12
    • If you prefer to use an off-campus lesson teacher lined up and you get it approved by Mr. Held, you will only need to pay a registration fee of $50 for smartmusic and the method book.
    • Due to band being only during elective period twice a week, band lessons are required.
  5. Do not worry about purchasing a method book. The cost for one is covered by the semester band fee. Mr. Held will pass them out in the first weeks of school.
  6. The first few band days you won’t need to bring your instrument. Mr. Held will let you know when they are needed.

Please contact Mr. Held at heldj@clhs-tx.org with any questions.

  • This fee will cover lessons, a yearly subscription to smartmusic software, and a method book.
  • If you prefer to continue off-campus lessons and you get it approved by Mr. Held, you will only need to pay a registration fee of $50 for smartmusic and the method book.
